Inspired by John Cage and Hans Arp and their chance operations approach to art making, I wanted to create a mixed media collage based on these principles that could be interpreted as a visual score. I was interested in testing the boudnaries of selection (defining my source materials, colour palette, which may be ordered chance) and how far pictorially I was willing to abandon pictorial composition for the piece. I used gestures of dropping, placing, throwing and databending to achieve the unknown, chance element of the piece.
